Thinking about becoming a Symponia Member?

Symponia and the Local Community

Symponia is situated in a small Warwickshire hamlet on the picturesque banks of the River Avon.

Charity Support

As a professional, but highly compassionate company, we are keen to support our own village, in particular participating in and supporting specific fund raising events.

On a very hot weekend in July 2006, Barton held its first treasure hunt and Summer Fete, Jeremy took on the role of official photographer and the weekend raised over £3,000, which was shared between Warwick Hospital & Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Our member, John Williams ran in the Great North Run on 5th October, and hopes to raise £1,000 for the Alzheimers Society. John himself said “It was a great day and I'd recommend it to anyone seeking the 'feel-good factor'. The weather was great, camaraderie was brilliant and the Newcastle people were out in force and were very supportive.”

The Church of St Laurence

Barton is closely linked to Bidford upon Avon, a larger village a mile down the river. Bidford was famous in Shakespeare’s time and nicknamed (by him) as Drunken Bidford.

A dominant feature of the Bidford riverbank is the Church of St Laurence; originally built in 1206 the Church has just celebrated its 800th anniversary. Although some changes have occurred since 1206, English Heritage do recognise the church’s historic importance, giving it Grade II listed building status.

As with all old buildings it needs constant attention and the south roof is in urgent need for repair, Symponia is proud to have helped with this project, and we hope the Church will be here for a further 800 years.

Mill House – Chipping Campden

On 12th July 2008, we were lucky enough to be invited to attend the Summer Fair at Mill House.

Despite the mixed weather everyone, including residents of the home, their families, neighbours, guests and teachers from the nearby school (who provided the music) had a truly great time.

Guests were able to buy home-made cakes, purchase an array of books, indulge in a traditional cream tea, name a large white fluffy polar bear (going to the winner) or try their hand at the tombola, admirably looked after by Janet, Jeremy once again moved into the role of official photographer.

Responsible Waste

It is amazing how much paper we receive through the post and use on a daily basis, we are keen to employ a responsible approach to used materials, and wherever possible we recycle as much as we can, all our waste paper is first shredded for confidentiality and then recycled.

All bottles and glass is sent for recycling as is our cardboard and the remains of our gardening!
