Symponia - The Green Paper
On Tuesday 14th July the Government announced a new Green Paper on the future funding of adult social care. Within Whitehall a Green Paper is an official title for a consultation period, and in this case the period of deliberation will last until 13th November. We now know that it is the Government’s wish to try to establish a National Care Service, creating parity for all and delivering quality care regardless of means.
Symponia supports any measure that will make the traumatic and emotional situation of placing a relative in a care situation (in a care home or within their own home) easier to understand and much fairer for everyone.
We agree that the current system is flawed, our members have worked with countless families, who not only have to dismantle the lives of their loved relatives, and empty family homes of personal treasures but they have stood by and watched hard-earned money literally disappear.
Most of the elderly people currently in care had high hopes indeed, sixty years ago when in 1948 the new, bright and shiny National Health Service was born, which by circumstance, not design is a far cry from present day circumstances.
