Daily Express: Your Money

Former concert pianist Pamela Shepherd, 79, needed long-term care after falling at home and lying undiscovered for four days. "The milkman realised something was wrong and slipped a note through my neighbour's door, " she says. "They found me lying unconscious, and I was rushed to hospital with hypothermia."

Three years ago she moved to the Jobs Close Residential Home in Solihull, West Midlands. "I was very poorly at first and lost all interest in playing the piano. But this home is so wonderful and I've made a super recovery. Now I am happily playing again." Pamela took advice on funding her care fees from national specialist Symponia.

They suggested she sell her home and invest the money for an income to cover her care home fees. "Symponia was absolutely marvellous, my adviser[Janet Davies] came to see me every month to see how I was getting on. I leave all the money side to them, and just get on with enjoying my life."

Pamela Shepherd made a good recovery at a residential home and was helped by a specialist care advice firm.
